** A former Nova Scotia paramedic from Sackville has announced that he is seeking the leadership of the province’s NDP party. That is the word from the CBC (June 7) which said Dave Wilson, who was initially elected to the legislature in 2003, represents the seat of Sackville-Cobequid. According to the news station, Wilson made public his bid Sunday. The position has been open since former leader Darrell Dexter resigned in November 2013 after losing the election. Maureen MacDonald is currently the acting leader. One other MLA has also announced plans to run.

** A Salinas, California man was arrested Friday for attacking a paramedic and throwing his mother into moving traffic. KION News (June 6) said Jose Velasco, 28, was taken into custody by police around 7:14 p.m. after passing officers saw him pounding his mother’s head into the road. According to the news station, Velasco had also been screaming and running around cars just a moment prior. Combative at the point of arrest, he grabbed an officer’s taser before other police managed to subdue and handcuff him. Once inside the ambulance, he attempted to bite the attending paramedic and accompanying officer. He was sedated at hospital and now faces several felony tags, as well as a parole violation.
