** An Arkansas EMT from Caraway has been charged with felony aggravated assault after allegedly threatening a first responder with a knife at an emergency scene Saturday. That is the word from KAIT (April 21) which said Lee Austin, 27, was tagged with the infraction after a Monday probable cause hearing. According to the news site, Austin apparently wielded the weapon after a verbal disagreement between him and the unknown responder escalated. Austin, who works for Emerson Ambulance, has since been released from jail on a $1,000 bond. There is no word on his next court date. No one was injured in the incident.

** A Welsh Ambulance Service paramedic has been struck off after lying about an emergency when he was caught speeding four years ago. The Daily Mail (James Dunn/April 22) said Philip Garrod, 43, apparently resorted to subterfuge in an effort to evade a driving ban. According to the newspaper, Garrod was on his motorbike on his way to work on April 25, 2011 when a police camera clocked him going 105 mph in a 60 mph zone. After pleading not guilty and being fined 650 pounds, he asked a judge to consider that his infraction occurred because a call for an injured motorcyclist was waiting. To back his story, Garrod apparently filled out a bogus run-sheet on the fake call, despite no such help hail being recorded that day. He later told the Health and Care Professions Council he had confused the dates on which the call took place. Despite the defence, Garrod was found guilty of misconduct.
