** Sentencing has been set for April 22nd for a Chicago, Illinois woman who made a hoax 911 call claiming a person had fallen into a lake and was drowning. The Chicago Sun-Times (January 29) said Leona Chewing, 24, pleaded guilty to making the false help hail in Federal Court Thursday. According to the newspaper, a plea deal is on the table and could reduce her jail term to between 4-10 months. Restitution and/or fines of up to $20,000 are likely. Chewing made the call February 4, 2013 around 9 p.m., sparking a police, EMS, and Coast Guard response to the Lake Michigan area that cost upwards of $13,000. The fake call also saw responders placed at risk during the rescue in icy and night time conditions. Pending her next court appearance, Chewing has been released on her own recognizance.
