** An Emmaus, Pennsylvania woman has been charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment,
and disorderly conduct after she punched a paramedic in the face Saturday. That is the word from Lehigh Valley Live (Sarah Cassi/December 30) which said Catherine E. Blank, 37, allegedly mounted the attack in the EMS unit while en route to hospital. According to the newspaper, the noon time incident played out with Blank grabbing the medic by the shirt before hauling off and clocking him. She was arrested a short time later and as of Tuesday was being held in Lehigh County Jail pending the posting of a $50,000 bond. There is no word on what motivated the assault.
** A former California EMT has been sentenced to 4 years in the state prison after being convicted of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. The Signal Tribune (December 29) said Los Angeles resident Raymound Burley III, who pleaded guilty in July, was handed the decision Monday. According to the newspaper, Burley was on his way home from a Christmas party December 9, 2012 when he hit tow truck operator Faapuna Mac Manu, 27, on the 405 Freeway. Manu died on impact. Burley, meanwhile, tried to kill himself by slitting his wrists. He was arrested shortly afterwards and his blood alcohol content was pegged at .11. A restitution hearing in the case is set for January 15th.
