** A King County, Washington paramedic has been indicted on charges that he tampered with the morphine
vials carried by his ambulance service. That is the word from KIRO (Natasha Chen/November 13) which said
the proceedings against Paul Ahrens took place Wednesday in relation to the November 2013 incident.
According to the news site, Ahrens replaced the morphine with the sedative Etomidate. The latter can induce
unconsciousness but often results in a painful awakening for the patient. Ahrens faces the tags of tampering
with consumer products x 3. He resigned from his position several weeks after his arrest. There is no word
yet on his next court date.
** Police in Paducah, Kentucky arrested an area man last week for a burglary during which he impersonated
a paramedic doing an elderly resident medical check. KFVS (November 13) said Martin C. Gossett, 31, was
taken into custody by police shortly after the heist. At the time, he was seen riding his bicycle the wrong way
down a local street. According to the news site, Gossett, who matched the homeowner’s description of the thief,
was carrying a wallet with someone else’s ID, some change, and a Craftsman tool bag.. All belonged to the
complainant. So far, Gossett faces tags for alcohol intoxication and both second and third degree burglary.
Police say he could also face additional charges. The paramedic ruse was used when he woke up the
homeowner after secretly entering the house.
