** Ambulances in Quebec City, Quebec were diverted Sunday evening from the Hotel Dieu Hospital after two EMS patients locked themselves in a bathroom and dialed 911 to issue a bomb threat. CTV Montreal (September 8) said the incident forced a partial hospital evacuation and a police cordon. No one was allowed into the facility while the tactical squad surrounded the emergency room. According to the news service, the standoff ended early Monday morning with the arrest of two women. Police have not yet indicated whether the threat was real or what motivated it.
** Windsor, Ontario paramedics were called Monday to transport a possible Ebola patient to hospital from a university area of the city. The Windsor Star (Trevor Wilhelm/September 8) said practitioners donned masks, goggles, and latex suits to move the patient to Windsor Regional Hospital. Reverse isolation was also used. According to the newspaper, the unidentified person had recently returned from a trip to Nigeria and was, therefore, thoroughly screened by ambulance dispatchers. Hospital spokesman Ron Foster said the patient was presenting with a rash and fever. Testing for the Ebola virus is now underway.
