** California searchers looking for missing paramedic find his dog instead
** South African paramedic wins wrongful dismissal/compensation case from 10 years ago
UNITED STATES NEWS
** California search and rescue personnel located the dog of a missing paramedic Sunday, but have still not located the practitioner himself. That is the word from the Los Angeles Times (Lauren Raab/June 22) which said the canine called Duke was found in the Los Padres National Forest where medic Michael Herdman, 36, disappeared June 13th while camping. According to the newspaper, searchers found the dog at the trailhead where Herdman had begun to backpack. Exhausted and somewhat emaciated, the animal had apparently journeyed 12 miles from where rescuers had previously glimpsed him a few days prior. Dana Point resident Herdman is married and has a young daughter.
SOUTH AFRICA NEWS
** A jobless former Durban paramedic has now won his compensation case against unfair dismissal. ENCA (June 23) said Ravind Sadapal will receive $R2 million in back pay and be reinstated. Sadapal, who has been fighting his firing for several years, was originally let go in 2004 for absenteeism and for allegedly performing unauthorized duties. He had worked for KwaZulu-Natal’s health department for 13 years at the time. Prior to his recent win, he had also triumphed in four appeals, but had seen no cash as a result.
