UNITED STATES NEWS
** A Brookline, Massachusetts man has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly throwing a stair chair at paramedics attempting to aid his wife Saturday. That is the word from the Brookline Tab (Erin Clossey/June 10) which said Richard Joyce, 62, was also tagged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery on an emergency medical technician. According to the news site, Joyce became aggressive around 9:25 p.m. as EMS treated a wound on his wife’s face. When approached by police, Joyce said he was displeased with the EMS care his spouse was receiving. He also said a chair at the bottom of a landing had fallen there after an EMT tripped over it. The attending medic discounted the story, however, saying Joyce unstrapped his wife from the stair chair. He then threw the seat at the practitioner’s back as the latter left the building to hail police.
** A Georgia medic suffered from smoke inhalation Wednesday after the ambulance he was riding in caught fire. WJBF (Damon Putzier/June 11) said the 3:30 p.m. incident occurred in downtown Augusta and also impacted the patient the Gold Cross Ambulance was transporting. According to the newspaper, the cause of the blaze is currently unknown and remains under investigation.
