UNITED STATES NEWS
** A Joliet, Illinois man has been arrested after calling 911 six times to complain that ambulance sirens were too loud. That is the word from the Joliet Patch (Joseph Hosey/May 13) which said Richard Kweiser, 59, was taken into custody after registering his seventh beef in person at the St. Joseph Medical Center. According to the newspaper, Kweiser said the noise from the sirens disturbed him as EMS units persistently drove past his home. He has been charged with disorderly conduct for making a false complaint.
** In what is being described as a first for the United States, ambulances in Richmond, Virginia will soon be carrying freshly thawed blood  plasma to administer to patients. WTVR (Mark Holmberg/May 13) said the initiative is part of a medical trial that will also include Pittsburgh and Denver. According to the news station, the pilot is being funded by the Department of Defence. Plasma, which will be stored in ambulance refrigerators, will be transferred to hospitals before its storage time is exceeded. Technology may also be employed whereby the plasma is dehydrated before it is required for use.
