** Ohio EMT avoids jail in drunken hit-and-run case
** Australian paramedics in Tasmania preparing to strike
UNITED STATES NEWS
** A Dayton, Ohio EMT has avoided jail after accepting a plea deal in a hit-and-run case that created a three car pile-up. That is the word from ABC 22 (November 19) which said Brandon Lee, 23, pleaded guilty to hit-and-run early last week in relation to the August crash on the I-35. In exchange, tags for OVI and failure to control were tossed. Following the accident, testing of Lee’s blood alcohol revealed him to be almost two times the legal limit. Despite the conviction, he remains on the job at the city’s fire department. A spokesman for the organization, however, said he remains on desk duty.
AUSTRALIA NEWS
** Tasmanian paramedics are apparently preparing to take industrial action. ABC News (November 22) said picketing could begin as soon as this week. EMS practitioners as well as teachers are protesting wages and working conditions. Union spokesman Tim Jacobson told the news service shift scheduling and meal breaks are also concerns. Medics rejected the contract proposed by the government early last week.
