** A report reviewing ground ambulance services in Newfoundland and Labrador was released Monday. NLNewsNow (October 7) said the look-see, done by Fitch and Associates, made 10 recommendations for improvement. Among these was the establishment of a centralized agency to oversee EMS, as well as centralized dispatch. In addition, the authors of the tome also recommended self regulation for medics. The paper will now be scrutinized at a series of stakeholder meetings next month.

** A paramedic and former FBI security expert is hitting the public eye with a book on Islamic terrorism.Ticklethewire (Allen Lengel/October 7) said Raising a Jihadi Generation by John Guandolo is being praised in some circles as a good reference manual for national security agencies while being panned by other critics as anti-Muslim. Guandolo, who previously served as a nationally registered paramedic and advanced capability medic with the FBI, also worked with the Washington Field Office SWAT team for nine years. He currently acts as a freelance national security adviser, as well as a frequent television and radio guest. His previous works include Shariah — The Threat to America.
