** Nova Scotia remembers fallen paramedic

** A former Pennsylvania EMT was killed in a car crash Monday. WTJA (October 1) said Ridgway resident William Duffield, 37, died when the SUV he was driving left the road, hit an embankment, and rolled. According to the news site, Duffield lost control of the vehicle while attempting a left turn. Duffield, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the car at the moment of impact. He formerly worked for DuBois Ambulance Service.
CANADA NEWS
** Nova Scotia paramedics are preparing to mark the 10th anniversary Sunday of the death of paramedic John Rossiter, 31, who died during Hurricane Juan. CBC (September 29) said Rossiter perished around 1 a.m. October 6, 2003 after a storm tossed tree fell on his ambulance. The formal commemoration for him will play out early next week at which time the province will hold its first Medic Monday. The day has been set aside to pay tribute to paramedics and was instigated partly in honour of the fallen provider. Other nods remembering Rossiter include a plaque marking the spot where he died, as well as the naming of a restaurant booth and hospital room in his honour. The Hammonds Plains Fire Department likewise planted a tree in his name and posted a plaque.
