** A Paris, Texas paramedic is dead after a Sunday morning motorcycle accident with a van. EParisExtra (October 13) said Joe Howard, 57, died around 8:50 a.m. as he was en route to a WWII motorcycle event. According to the news site, Howard’s bike hit the van at an intersection. Transported to hospital, he was pronounced dead at 11 a.m. Police continue to investigate. Howard had worked EMS for the past 10 years. He leaves a wife behind. Funeral services are pending.

** A Sunday ambulance call-out in Leyland resulted in a trainee paramedic fracturing his skull when he was attacked. That is the word from the BBC (October 14) which said the North West Ambulance Service practitioner was hit on the head with a baseball bat. According to the news service, the paramedic is currently in stable condition in hospital. A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the assault. A spokesman for the ambulance service said he was appalled by the incident. Derek Cartwright said the attack, which could have been fatal, is one of the worst he has seen in his 30 years with local EMS.
