** New Jersey medic sentenced to probation in baby shaking case
** Texas paramedic arrested on drug charges

** A former Morristown, New Jersey EMT has been sentenced to two years probation for shaking his baby son. The Star Ledger (Ben Horowitz/September 13) said Lawrence Biehler, 34, was handed the sentence yesterday. According to the newspaper, the judge’s decision comes after an August deal in which Biehler agreed to plead guilty to a lesser charge. He had been previously tagged with aggravated assault and child endangerment in relation to the February 2012 incident. In announcing the terms of Biehler’s deal, Judge Robert Gilson said while the boy did sustain serious head and eye injuries in the attack, the child has since recovered. Biehler’s attorney Gregg Trautmann said his client shook his son, who suffers from hydrocephalus, after the latter went limp in his father’s arms.
** Authorities in Atlanta, Texas have arrested a part time paramedic on drug charges. That is the word from Nexstar Broadcasting (Nikki Henderson/September 12) which said Michael Keener, 26, was taken into custody Wednesday. According to the newspaper, Keener allegedly removed drugs from their vials, replacing them with a clear liquid. He has been charged with obtaining a controlled dangerous substance and altering a controlled dangerous substance. He remains in custody pending the posting of a $3,000 bond.
