** Washington man sentenced to year in jail for attacking paramedics at gas station
** Trial of Texas paramedic accused of possessing bomb making materials postponed
UNITED STATES NEWS
** A Washington man has been sentenced to a year in jail after attacking a trio of paramedics this past January as they filled their EMS unit with gas. That is the word from the Associated Press (September 19) which said Olympia resident Wade C. Buchanan, 47, who suffers from schizophrenia, was sentenced Wednesday. According to the newspaper, Buchanan attacked the practitioners at a Centralia service station January 26th. Two of the practitioners suffered bleeding bite wounds in the incident. Treated for his mental health issues at the Western State Hospital, Buchanan could be out early next year after being given credit for time served.
** The trial of a West, Texas paramedic, charged in May with possessing bomb making materials, has been set back until October. The Waco Tribune (Tommy Witherspoon/September 20) said legal proceedings for Bryce Reed, 31, are now scheduled for October 15th. According to the newspaper, Reed was to go to trial September 23rd, but the deferment could accommodate a plea agreement with federal prosecutors. Reed is out on bail in North Texas after being released on bond August 22nd. He had been in custody since May 22nd. If convicted he could face a decade in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
