** Deadline for 9/11 responder compensation nearing in US
** Former 9/11 paramedic says new New York WTC museum should not charge admission fee to Ground Zero responders
UNITED STATES NEWS
** The deadline for Ground Zero first responders to apply for compensation for health problems contracted at the site is drawing near. That is the word from the New York Press (September 10) which said October 3 is the day on which applications close for responders, recovery workers, and survivors. The money is available under the Victim Compensation Fund of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act. The statutes apply to injured and ill first responders and survivors at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the Shanksville, Pennsylvania plane crash site. More information is available at www.vcf.gov
** A former Fire Department of New York (FDNY) paramedic says the entrance fee to the new 9/11 museum is a disgrace. WPTV (Dan Corcoran (September 11) quoted Mark Harris as saying the projected $20-25 admission should not be charged to those who served that day. Harris, who now lives in Palm Beach County, Florida, said costs for Ground Zero responders should be waived as they are for victims’ families. He said lists exist to verify who was or was not there on September 11, 2001. The 9/11 Memorial Museum, which has cost around $700 million so far, is nearing completion. It will likely open its doors next spring.
