** A New South Wales man has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm after headbutting a responding paramedic. The NSW Police Force (August 5) said the Inverell incident occurred Saturday around 8:15 p.m. According to the press release, the man became aggressive when the paramedic crew arrived on scene. When the male paramedic leaned towards him, he attacked. Along with the above mentioned charge, the unidentified male has also been tagged with offensive conduct. His next court appearance will be August 22nd. The medic, meanwhile, was transported to hospital for a possible broken nose.
** A former Royal Australian Navy medic will be spending the next four years in jail after being convicted of drug dealing. The Sunday Telegraph (Brenden Hills/August 3) said decorated soldier Darren Andrew Cole, 32, was found guilty of a host of both drug and weapons charges. According to the newspaper, Cole began his downward spiral after becoming addicted to the drug known as ice. His lawyer said his involvement in a 2005 rescue of Sea King helicopter crash victims prompted him to self medicate. Several friends and colleagues died in the accident. The jig was up after a police phone tap on Cole’s mobile revealed his attempted to smuggle 25 litres of GHB into New South Wales. Cole was honourably discharged from the Navy in 2006.
