** A Nashua, New Hampshire man who stabbed an area EMT to death two years ago has been sentenced to 52 years in jail. That is the word from the Associated Press (August 21) which said Matthew Packer, 23, was handed the sentence Wednesday in Hillsborough County Superior Court South. ** A North Carolina woman will be cooling her heels in jail for the next 30 days, after being convicted of assault when she slapped an EMT. The Herald-Sun (Beth Velliquette/August 20) said Raleigh resident Victoria Denise Scott, 52, pleaded guilty Monday to assault on an EMT, assault on a law enforcement officer, and driving while impaired. According to the newspaper, the charges relate to an October 22, 2012 incident in which Scott crashed into another car while entering an I-40 on-ramp. After being taken into custody by police and escaping restraints twice, Scott eventually poked an attending officer in the eye. Once at the police station, she slapped an EMT across the face when he attempted to take a blood sample following her breath test refusal. Her blood alcohol level was recorded as .17. At sentencing, Scott apologized for her conduct.
