** Pennsylvania man who allegedly killed woman and three sons at crosswalk was fake EMT, authorities say
** Texas Rangers say so far no links between West medic and fertlizer plant blast
UNITED STATES NEWS
** A Lancaster, Pennsylvania man, who allegedly struck and killed a woman and her three sons at an intersection last month, was not an EMT at the time. That is the word from ABC 27 (August 6) which said Khusen A. Akhmedov, 23, was wrongly identified as an EMS provider after the crash because he was carrying a prehospital badge. According to the newspaper, Akhmedov has now been charged additionally with impersonating a public servant and reckless driving. He already faces tags for third-degree murder, vehicular homicide and other infractions. Witnesses said Akhmedov was driving recklessly prior to the fatal July 8th collision. He was also apparently waving his badge at motorists. At the time of the crash, he was already facing the law for Medicare fraud alongside six other ambulance operators.
** Texas authorities continue to investigate, but so far no evidence has been discovered linking a West paramedic to a deadly April 17th fertilizer plant blast that killed 15 people. The Big Country (Maxine Riding/Angela Schilling/August 8) said Texas Rangers have been unsuccessful in linking Bryce Reed to the explosion. Reed remains in custody after being arrested for allegedly possessing pipe bomb making materials. He was noted as being one of the first prehospital responders on the scene following the blast. Along with the above mentioned deaths, the explosion saw hundreds injured and vast swaths of residential areas flattened.
