** Fundraising for a permanent monument for fallen EMS LODDs in Ottawa, Ontario has now begun, with a charity bike ride from Toronto to the nation’s capital set for September 20th to 23rd. The Ottawa Sun (Doug Hempstead/July 29) said the undertaking by the Canadian Benevolent Paramedic Society will be 500 km and will likely be done annually. EMS practitioners and the public are welcome to attend.

** A Virginia woman is facing firearms charges after a Saturday evening incident in which she pointed a gun at EMS and fire personnel. The Associated Press (July 28) said Schuyler resident Samantha D. Tyree-Vest, 25, allegedly brandished the weapon after losing control of her vehicle. When emergency personnel approached her, she pointed the pistol before lowering it when ordered to do so. No one was injured in the confrontation. Tyree-Vest has been tagged with firearms charges x 2, possession of brass knuckles, and driving under the influence.
