** The trial of a Kentucky man who caused a fatal ambulance crash in Glencoe one year ago began Monday. The Kentucky Post (July 15) said Warsaw resident Hunter LeGrand, 23, stands accused of causing the accident which killed Dry Ridge patient John Little, 59. According to the newspaper, Little died at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center after being medevaced there following the accident. Little allegedly hit both a pole and a mailbox before crossing the center line on US 127 and striking the EMS unit. Police said Little was high on drugs at the time.
** A New York woman who survived jumping off the third floor of an apartment building is suing EMTs for not properly restraining her. That is the word from the Village Voice (Albert Samaha/July 16) which said Maria Rodriguez claims medics should have known she was suicidal at the time she fled the EMS unit on May 29th of last year. According to the newspaper, Rodriguez was allegedly left unsupervised while inside the ambulance and then allowed to leave. After alighting the rig, she headed to the apartment building and jumped around 8 a.m. EMS and police were hailed in the first place after Rodriguez broke the windows of an area car and was observed acting erratically. She apparently continues to receive medical care as a result of the incident. It remains unclear what injuries she suffered in the jump.
