** Texas Rangers in Grand Saline arrested an EMT Friday on child porn charges. KLTV (July 29) said Bobby Read Mooring was taken into custody in the afternoon hours. Few details are currently available on the case. Mooring, however, also served as a volunteer police officer for the Van Police Department in 2011 and 2012. Other law enforcement work was done in Van Zandt County. There is no word yet on his next court date. He was released on bail Sunday.
** The case of a Fort Campbell, Kentucky combat medic who died under mysterious circumstances July 19th is being investigated as a homicide. That is the word from the News-Press (July 28) which quoted family members of Spc. Brandon Bertolo, 23, as saying they, along with the Army Criminal Investigation Division, are baffled as to what happened to their son. Bertolo disappeared July 14th after visiting his family in Fort Myers Beach, Florida. His body was found five days later in a training area outside his military base. Bertolo’s father, David, said Brandon seemed happy during their last time together, with a planned fall trip to Washington a particular high point in the 6-foot-2 medic’s life. He had also recently been promoted.
