** San Francisco plane crash responders tested for drugs and alcohol in relation to death of 16-year-old

UNITED STATES NEWS

** Tennessee police in Hawkins County are continuing to investigate a Saturday ambulance crash that claimed the life of an 18-year-old woman and injured 9 others. The Times-News (Jeff Bobo/July 8) said the 10:30 p.m. incident in Church Hill could result in the driver of the ambulance, Amanda Carr, 22, being charged. According to the news service, Carr allegedly went through a red light intersection, striking the vehicle driven by Samantha K. Hathaway on the driver’s door. The EMS unit also struck two other vehicles attempting to turn left. The prehospital rig then flipped onto its side. Hathaway died at the scene. All three medics onboard the ambulance were transported to hospital and released. Evidence in the case will probably be presented to a Grand Jury to determine what tags Carr may face. The newspaper quoted experts as saying vehicular homicide based on reckless conduct could be one possibility. Felony reckless homicide and felony criminally negligent homicide are two others. A raft of additional charges relating to the injuries sustained by other vehicle occupants could also be on the table.

** None of the San Francisco emergency personnel responding to Saturday’s plane crash had drugs or alcohol in their system at the time they may have run over a teenaged girl. That is the word from the LA Times (Kate Mather/Lee Romney/July) which quoted sources from an internal EMS investigation. According to the newspaper, the coroner is still trying to determine the cause of death for the 16-year-old Chinese youth. The teen’s body was found on the tarmac shortly after the crash of Asiana Airlines Flight 214. The plane was inbound from Seoul, South Korea at the time.
