** A Rapid City, South Dakota teenager will be cooling his heels in jail for the next little while, after being sentenced for spitting on an EMT at an MVA scene one year ago. The Rapid City Journal (March 11) said Trey Wright, 19, became agitated with EMS and law enforcement officials after they were hailed on February 18th to treat him when he crashed his car. Initially charged with a felony in relation to the incident, his tags were reduced to misdemeanor status under a plea deal. He has now been convicted of driving under the influence, sliming, and simple assault. Wright, who is already in jail on an unrelated matter, will serve his most recent sentence after his first release in May.

** An air ambulance crew from South Dakota narrowly escaped injury Thursday after the aircraft they were in hit a duck while in flight. KSFY (March 8) said the 6 p.m. incident occurred as the chopper was en route to Sioux Falls. According to the news service, a pilot, flight medic, flight nurse, respiratory therapist, and patient were onboard at the time. Although the pilot made an unscheduled landing at Humboldt after the strike, no one was hurt in the mishap. Following a check over, the helicopter was flown back to its Sanford base later in the evening.
