** Grandson of JFK training to be volunteer Connecticut EMT

** Virginia EMTs instructed on how to ID meth labs and users

UNITED STATES NEWS

** Connecticut EMTs are about to have a famous addition to the EMS family in the form of the grandson of former President John F. Kennedy. That is the word from the Daily Mail (Haley Peterson/February 27) which said Jack Schlossberg, 20, the son of JFK’s daughter Caroline, is training in New Haven several nights a week. Schlossberg is currently a student at Yale University. Although the move is being touted as a way to perform community service, pundits told the newspaper Schlossberg was unlikely to pursue EMS as a career as politics will be his likely profession.

** Around 150 Vermont EMTs, firefighters, and police officers attended training at a local high school in Hinesburg Tuesday aimed at helping them to better identify meth users and labs. WPTZ (February 27) said the instruction, given by the Virginia State Police, is designed to deal with what authorities say is an increasingly dangerous problem. Along with volatile chemicals, meth production uses items like lithium batteries to manufacture the drug. When labs are found, hazmat teams and bomb squads are called to handle cleanup. Police spokesman Lt. Reg Trayah said having more trained eyes able to spot labs could help eliminate both the sites and the market for the meth.
