** Trial begins for New York EMT charged with five sexual assaults

UNITED STATES NEWS

** A pair of Kentucky EMTs continue to recover in hospital after a Thursday car/ambulance crash left them with serious injuries. WDRB (January 11) said Vine Grove resident Todd Flory, 49, and Payneville EMT Michael Wise, 48, were transported to the Louisville University Hospital following the 6:40 p.m. mishap. According to the news station, Flory was behind the wheel of the EMS unit when a Pontiac failed to stop at a stop sign controlled intersection. Although the ambulance attempted to avoid a collision, it hit the car and then overturned. Both medics were then ejected. WHAS 11 (January 11) said the two suffered pelvic and back injuries. A third car was also struck during the mishap. Pontiac driver Sarah S. Hottell, 28, died at the scene. Police continue to investigate.

** The trial involving a New York EMT accused of five separate sexual assaults has begun. The New York Daily News (Oren Yaniv/January 11) said witness testimony started Wednesday in the case against Angus Pascall, 35. Pascall has been charged in relation to incidents which occurred over a nine year period between 2001 and 2010. The first alleged victim, 22, identified Pascall as the man who raped her after sneaking into her apartment and threatening her with a gun. An 11-year-old girl is also expected to testify that the EMT raped her in an elevator, while a 14-year-old girl will be called to the stand to say Pascall attempted to rape her. During opening arguments, prosecutors said DNA evidence links the formerly decorated EMT to all five assaults.
