** Texas air ambulance crashes;3 injured

** Driver of South Carolina ambulance charged in fatal EMS crash

** Three people were injured Sunday when the medevac chopper they were on crashed near Eastland, Texas. The Star-Telegram (Domingo Ramirez Jr./September 30) said the 9:30 a.m. CareFlite accident occurred as the crew was on its way to pick up a patient. A flight paramedic, nurse, and pilot were onboard at the time. CareFlite president Jim Swartz told the newspaper the injuries sustained by the crew were not life threatening. Limited visibility due to bad weather is believed to have contributed to the mishap.

** North Carolina police in Monroe have charged the driver of a Sandihills Ambulance Service EMS unit with misdemeanor death by vehicle for a last Tuesday crash that killed an EMT. That is the word from WXII 12 (September 28) which said Cheraw, South Carolina resident Jonathan Cory Brown was found at fault in the crash in which medic Brenda Rivers died. According to the news site, Brown pulled out in front of the tractor-trailer after doing a patient drop-off at Carolinas Medical Center Union. Rivers was thrown from the rig. Brown remains in hospital in stable condition. The tractor trailer driver was not injured. Funeral services for Rivers were held Thursday.
