** A Cleveland, Ohio man is in hospital undergoing a psych evaluation after a Saturday incident in which he fired upon medics called to his home to help him. Fox 8 (August 25) said the unidentified male, who hailed EMS around 12:38 a.m., let loose with several shots after telling the arriving EMS crew he no longer needed them. Speaking with the practitioners from a second floor window, he then punctuated his comments by cocking his gun. A 12 gauge pump action shotgun was found later at the scene by a SWAT team called out to take the man into custody. No one was injured in the incident.

UNITED KINGDOM NEWS

** Swift justice for an Inverness man who assaulted a paramedic trying to help him has resulted in the assailant being handed four months in the clink. That is the word from the Highland News (August 25) which said Craig Cornish, 27, admitted the Thursday attack, but said he had no memory of it. According to the newspaper, EMS was hailed around 10:40 p.m. after Cornish was seen lying in the street. When practitioner George MacLean went to check on him, Cornish twisted his leg, forcing MacLean to the ground. MacLean was not injured in the incident. Testimony at Inverness Sheriff Court indicated Cornish had been released from prison on an assault remand earlier that day. Drawn to the city’s centre, he became drunk after friends bough him alcohol.
