** Wisconsin residents conduct memorial blood donor clinic in honor of deceased combat medic

** California combat medic succumbs to Afghanistan injuries

** Wisconsin residents in Marshfield are gathering today to take part in a blood donor clinic in memory of a combat medic killed last Christmas in Afghanistan. That is the word from WSAU (March 12) which said the undertaking, which will take place at the BloodCenter of Wisconsin, runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Peace. Joe Altmann’s mother Janice said her son was a quiet man who led by example. She also said he was a frequent blood donor.

** A Hesperia, California combat medic has died some three months after sustaining injuries while serving in Afghanistan. The Sun (March 11) said Spc. Edward J. Acosta, 21, succumbed March 5 in La Jolla. He served with the 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division out of Fort Bliss, TX. Acosta, who leaves a wife and daughter behind, was hurt in Wardak province after an IED exploded.
