UNITED STATES NEWS

** For the second time in little over a week an EMT has been charged with sexually assaulting a female patient. That is the word from WCBD TV (January 12) which said Mount Pleasant, South Carolina EMT Anthony Louis Green has been charged with criminal sexual conduct 3rd degree. According to the newspaper, Green admitted to police that he inappropriately touched the woman as she lay immobilized on a backboard. The patient was being transported to a Charleston hospital at the time of the June 10, 2011 incident. Green was taken into custody last Thursday. His arrest comes about six days after news broke that a New Haven, Connecticut EMT allegedly sexually assaulted a female patient Christmas Day. In that instance (Daily Mail/January 6) Mark Powell, 49, apparently attacked the 22-year-old while she was unconscious with a head injury. She told police she awoke during the assault but was strapped down and unable to move. Powell has been charged with first-degree sexual assault and first-degree unlawful restraint. He is expected to appear in court this Thursday.

** A Raytown, Missouri US Navy reserve medic is dead after being shot by police in a Thursday confrontation fuelled by knowledge he was returning to international duty. KCTV (January 13) said Robert G. Long, who was stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base, was apparently in a drunken rage when gunned down. According to the news site, he began drinking around 7 a.m. that day, continuing to the point of being ejected from an area bar. Once driven home by police, he fired a gun at his house and threatened to kill both himself and his roommate. Matters came to a head when the roommate once again hailed authorities. Police shot Long after he waved a rifle at them and threatened to shoot anyone entering his home. He died later in hospital.
