** US combat medic killed in Afghanistan

** Wounded Ohio combat medic flown back to US for medical treatment in time for holidays

** A Marshfield, Wisconsin military medic has been killed in Afghanistan. The North Western (December 27) said Staff Sgt. Joseph J. Altmann, 27, died Christmas Day. According to the newspaper, Altmann was on patrol in Kunar province when he was attacked by insurgents with small arms fire. Altmann, who had just re-enlisted for another four years, had already served two tours in Iraq. Stationed in Hawaii, he had only just married this past February.

** A Cleveland, Ohio combat medic stationed in Afghanistan has been reunited with her family after being wounded in an IED attack just prior to the holidays. Newson6 (December 24) said Spc. Ashley Jones, 20, was flown into San Antonio, Texas Christmas Eve for medical treatment. Jones’ family flew in to the city that same day. Along with a broken back, Jones suffered a fractured pelvis in the attack. She also had her right foot amputated from directly above the ankle.
