** Washington Green Beret medic killed in rocket attack in Afghanistan

** The body of a US Navy Corpsman killed last week while on foot patrol in Afghanistan was returned home Tuesday for burial. WJRT (July 19) said the remains of Seaman Aaron Ullom, 20, were flown into Freeman, Michigan’s MBS International Airport around 3 p.m. A motorcade then transported his coffin to Midland. Ullom, who joined the service after hearing a recruiting lecture while still in high school, was on his first overseas deployment. He was with the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment. Funeral services are pending.

** Burial for a US Green Beret medic killed Friday in Afghanistan is expected to take place in Colville, Washington. That is the word from KXLY (July 18) which said Army Staff Sgt. Wyatt Goldsmith, 28, was killed during a rocket propelled attack in Helmand province. According to the newspaper, although Goldsmith initially survived his wounds, he later succumbed at Camp Bastion. In the Army since 2004, Goldsmith was a much decorated soldier. Among his citations is the Bronze Star with “V” device, Purple Heart, and two Army Commendation medals. A member of the ski patrol at home, Goldsmith was remembered by friends as a great guy who enjoyed his outdoor time in the mountains.
