** Mississippi man arrested after punching paramedic in mouth

** UK combat medics now trained to treat military dogs

** A Mississippi man has been charged with assault after punching a paramedic in the mouth while at a local hospital Sunday. The Sun Herald (Robin Fitzgerald/May 10) said Douglas Clark Mills, 40, was also tagged with felony DUI;bail was set at $100,000. According to the newspaper, Mills set upon the American Medical Response (AMR) medic after being transported there following an MVA in which he drove his car into a house. A frequent DUI flyer, Mills’ record indicates two previous convictions since 2006.

** Field medics with British forces in Afghanistan are being trained to treat injured military dogs. British Forces News (Charlotte Cross/May 10) said heat problems and gunshot or shrapnel wounds, as well as eye and ear infections due to dust, can all be addressed with the new training. The approach is part of a strategy to further ensure the safety of combat personnel. Dogs frequently work side by side with soldiers, sniffing out IEDs and other explosives.
