** Mental patient forces BC paramedics to flee ambulance

** UK medic given slap on wrist for stealing and consuming drugs on the job, then lying about it

** A pair of Terrace, BC paramedics made a quick getaway from their ambulance last Thursday, after a patient became violent. That is the word from the Terrace Standard (May 5) which said police were called shortly after the ejection to subdue the man, 27. He was apprehended as per the Mental Health Act. According to the newspaper, the pre lunch melee eventually resulted in the practitioners completing the call. The patient was then transported to Mills Memorial Hospital.

UNITED KINGDOM NEWS

** A suspended jail sentence was handed to a Devon paramedic last week, after he stole medications from his workplace, consumed them, and then lied about his actions. The BBC (May 6) said Charles Kingdom, 36, who was charged with both theft and fraud, will be on suspension for 2 years;he was originally sentenced to 12 months in the clink. According to the news service, Kingdom allegedly committed the thefts after his marriage broke down in 2009. After apologizing to the court, Kingdom’s attorney said despite his drug problems, Kingdom had an unblemished record. In addition to the suspended sentence, he must also do 300 hours community service.
