** Missouri air ambulance crashes onto helipad;three injured

UNITED STATES NEWS

** By way of paying tribute to an Alabama EMT, killed last week at an MVA scene, friends and colleagues held a candlelight vigil Sunday. WAAY TV (December 20) said the commemoration for Laura Pullam, 29, took place in Decatur. Pullam, who was noted as having an infectious smile, was also described as bubbly and full of life. Called to attend a multi vehicle MVA on the I-65 last week, Pullam died when an impatient truck driver passed the emergency vehicle on scene at a high rate of speed. Funeral services for Pullam took place Saturday. She leaves behind a husband and 11 month old daughter, Belle. Two funds have been established for Belle. Northern Alabama residents can donate money to any Bank Independent branch, while statewide contributions can be made at Compass Bank.

** Three members of a Missouri air ambulance crew are in hospital recovering from injuries after their chopper crashed 200 ft down onto a helipad. The KRCG 13 (December 20) said the Sunday incident, which took place near La Monte around 10 a.m., occurred on take-off from University Hospital. According to the news site, one of the  Staff for Life aircraft’s engines exploded. La Monte Fire Department Assistant Chief Mariah Durham said the pilot’s decision to cut power prior to impact prevented an explosion. A pilot, flight nurse, and paramedic were on board at the time. All were medevaced to Columbia for treatment and were listed in fair condition Sunday. Air Methods, meanwhile, which operates the chopper, is investigating.
