** Off duty Connecticut EMT/firefighter killed in car accident

** Four Ottawa paramedics who subdued police officer’s killer likely to be recognized for bravery

** Connecticut police in Madison are investigating the Thursday fatal crash involving a longtime EMT/firefighter. The New Haven Register (Amanda Pinto/April 16) said Robert Komola, 49, died after the car he was driving left Interstate 95 and hit at a tree around 9 a.m. Komola, who was not on duty at the time, died at the scene. Working for the last decade with the local ambulance association, he had also served with the North Madison Volunteer Fire Company for some 11 years, as well as as an EMD.

** Four Ottawa paramedics are likely to be recognized for bravery in relation to a December incident in which they subdued a man outside a hospital who had just stabbed and killed a city cop. The Ottawa Citizen (Gary Dimmock/April 12) said the providers also handcuffed the assailant and loaded him into a police cruiser. According to the newspaper, the December 29th attack has seen alleged assailant Kevin Reid Gregson, 43, remain on a jail suicide watch until just last month. Gregson is a former RCMP officer. His victim, police Const. Eric Czapnik, 51, was ambushed while at the hospital doing follow-up work for a sexual assault case.
