** An Ava, Missouri EMT, who was suspected of involvement in the disappearance of a female bartender, hung himself Sunday in his jail cell. The News-Leader (July 30) said Christopher Revak, 36, who was taken into custody Saturday, had been charged with second degree murder in the death of Rene Williams. Williams was last seen on March 13, 2007 at her workplace. According to police, a search of area property conducted last weekend led them to Revak. ** Delaware residents who recklessly cause the death of a paramedic will now face first-degree murder charges under an amended law signed by the state’s governor today. That is the word from the Sussex Countian (July 30) which said Michelle Smith’s Law, named after Delaware City Fire Co medic Michelle Smith, also covers those who fatally harm EMTs, fire police, and fire marshals;firefighters, corrections and police officers were already covered by the statute. Smith died in December of 2008 after being struck at a motorcycle accident scene. Though surviving the initial impact, she succumbed two days later in hospital.
