** Victoria, Australia medics ordered to remain on job

** Oklahoma paramedic attacked by state trooper still awaiting police internal investigation results

AUSTRALIA NEWS

** A planned strike by EMS medics in Victoria has been called off, after a Fairwork Australia ruling that the action would endanger the public. ABC News (July 21) said the decision, made after an appeal by Ambulance Victoria, forced the government back to the negotiating table yesterday. Although disappointed that the state wide work stopages were halted, union spokesman Steve McGhie said other tactics such as overtime bans could still be in the offing. Along with pay hikes, practitioners are driving for a 10 hour break between work shifts instead of the current 8.

UNITED STATES NEWS

** The Oklahoma attorney for a Creek Nation paramedic put in a choke-hold by a state trooper May 24 said police continue to stall in their investigation of the incident. The Associated Press (July 21) quoted Richard O’Carroll as saying the delay is a tactic aimed at waiting for media attention to die down. Hinting a lawsuit is pending, O’Carroll said Trooper Daniel Martin remains on paid administrative leave. Police spokesman Capt. Chris West, meanwhile, countered Carroll’s assessment, saying the internal look-see is concluded, though chief Col. Van M. Guillotte and the Public Safety Department Commissioner continue to review the matter. Results of their scrutiny are expected soon.
