** Daughter of deceased Kentucky EMS Director files wrongful death suit

** North Carolina medic recovers from heart attack after students defibrillate him

** The family of deceased Paintsville, Kentucky EMS Director Christa Burchett is suing the driver of the coal truck that killed her. WKYT (February 4) said Burchett’s 15-year-old daughter Olivia is seeking millions of dollars in punitive damages. The suit, which also names M & R Trucking, alleges driver Leslie Spence was driving at an excessive speed for the inclement conditions. In addition, the Burchett family is contending the truck had mechanical problems. Burchett died late last month after being run down at an MVA scene.

** A Lincolntown, North Carolina paramedics continues to improve, after being saved by the students in the junior EMS class he teaches. The Gaston Gazette (February 4) said Lincoln County Life Saving Crew Capt. Ken Morrison, 40, who collapsed January 25, is expected to return to work after speech rehabilitation therapy. Morrison, who was teaching at the time he took ill, had no pulse when his under 18 students both defibrillated him and performed CPR. Airlifted to Charlotte’s Carolinas Medical Center, he is expected to soon move out of the cardiac care unit.
