** Irish medic walks free after filming female colleague in washroom
CANADA NEWS
** A Kentiville, Nova Scotia paramedic, already facing trial for allegedly sexually assaulting two women, is confronting accusations from four more. The CBC (October 21) said James Duncan Keats now stands accused of attacks on six females who were in his care while on the job. According to the news service, Keats was arrested again Thursday. He remained in jail over the weekend, but was released on a $20,000 surety and is under house arrest. The most recent allegations involve women between 24 and 64-years-of-age and apparently occurred between December 20, 2010 and April 21, 2013. The total tags equal 11 with seven for sexual assault and four for breach of trust. Keats’ next court appearance is November 5.
IRELAND NEWS
** His work in EMS, a traumatic childhood, and his seriously ill wife were all factors influencing a judge to allow a Limerick paramedic to walk free from incarceration after filming a female colleague in the washroom. The Herald (David Raleigh/October 19) said Robert Murphy was given the pass despite pleading guilty in March to harassment. According to the newspaper, Murphy filmed the woman in Tipperary on May 5, 2012, perching his hidden camera in a box of gloves on a windowsill. In addition to apologizing to the victim, he has paid 5,000 Euros compensation to her. The judge in the case said her sentencing decision took into account the fact that Murphy had suffered ongoing shame in his life after his father murdered his mother when he was young. She said the taxing nature of his wife’s cancer and his ability to hold down a responsible job were also points in his favour.
