** Charges dropped against Texas paramedic accused of driving drunk
UNITED STATES NEWS
** Tennessee authorities have released the names of the three people killed Tuesday in an air ambulance crash near Memphis. The Associated Press (Travis Loller/Bruce Schreiner/October 22) said the dead have been identified as pilot Charles Smith, 47, nurse Carrie Barlow, and respiratory therapist Denise Adams, 43. Barlow leaves behind a husband and three children, while Adams is also survived by a husband and three children. Smith, meanwhile, is mourned by a wife and two sons. According to the news service, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) officials were on the site shortly after the crash. A spokesman for Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital said the chopper was cleared for the weather conditions. A National Weather Service spokesman said cloud cover was at about 4,000-5,000 feet at the time. The aircraft was en route to pick up a sick child when it went down.
** A Lubbock, Texas paramedic is in the clear now that charges accusing him of driving an ambulance while drunk have been dropped. That is the word from KCBD (October 22) which said Sundown EMS medic Daniel MacDonald was released Sunday after a judge found insufficient probable cause. According to the news station, MacDonald was arrested Saturday at University Medical Center after a call from a nearby ambulance service indicated MacDonald was intoxicated. MacDonald refused any alcohol related tests and blood was not drawn. Though the medic has denied wrongdoing, he remains on paid leave, pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
