** Seven Army medics killed in ambush in Yemen
** Canada’s EMS Chiefs recognize Winnipeg paramedics for their work with HIV patients

** Seven army medics are dead after gunmen opened fire on a bus they were riding in Sunday in the nation’s southern territory. That is the word from Reuters (June 15) which said the ambush occurred about 15 km north of Aden. The truck was en route to a nearby military hospital at the time. The hit is likely a response to the government’s April crackdown on al Qaeda. According to the news service, Yemen houses al Qaeda’s head office for operations in the Arabian Peninsula.
CANADA NEWS
** The Paramedic Chiefs of Canada have recognized a Winnipeg EMS program that aims to identify homeless HIV patients early. CJOB (June 16) said an award was given out last week at the Chiefs’ conference. According to the news service, paramedics working at the Main Street Project drunk tank are at the forefront of the initiative. Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Medical Supervisor Ryan Sneath said identifying HIV in patients at an early stage can stave off future complications. Sneath said the city sports some of the highest official numbers of HIV infected persons in the country.
