** A New Brunswick flight paramedic is dead after an early Saturday crash on Grand Manan Island. The Winnipeg Free Press (CP/August 17) identified the practitioner as William Mallock. The pilot of the aircraft, Klaus Sonnenberg,who was Atlantic Charters’ president, also perished in the 5 a.m. mishap. According to the news service, a second pilot and a flight nurse survived the crash and are being treated at Saint John Regional Hospital. The plane had just finished a patient drop-off when the Piper PA-31 Navajo went down close to the runway. As of Saturday evening, they were listed in stable condition. Transportation Safety Board investigators are now looking at the accident to determine the crash’s cause.

** An Indiana firefighter in Indianapolis could face criminal charges after being accused of sexually assaulting a female paramedic colleague. That is the word from WTHI (August 16) which said the unidentified firefighter is also the subject of an internal fire department investigation. According to the news site, the paramedic is contending the man assaulted her after he left his duty post to drive her home following a concert. Department officials remain mum, however, on other details surrounding the alleged attack.
