** Funeral today for New Brunswick medic killed in weekend air ambulance crash
** Dallas news anchor arrested after trying to bite medic, swinging at cops
CANADA NEWS
** Funeral services are set for today for a New Brunswick flight medic killed early Saturday in an air ambulance crash on Grand Manan. The Winnipeg Free Press (CP/August 19) said the commemoration for William Mallock will take place at the Grand Manan Community School. A spokesman for Ambulance New Brunswick said medics from across the province are likely to be in attendance. Interim president Paul Ward said the deaths of Mallock and pilot/Atlantic Charters president Klaus Sonnenberg have prompted condolences to be sent from all over Canada. Ward said his organization was grateful for the support. Funeral services for Sonnenberg, meanwhile, are pending. A second pilot and flight nurse continue to recover in hospital.
UNITED STATES NEWS
** Yet another news anchor has been charged after drunkenly trying to bite paramedics attempting to treat him. That is the word from the New York Daily News (Philip Caulfield/August 19) which said Dallas, Texas reporter Brendan Higgins, 46, who works for CBS, has been tagged with disorderly conduct in relation to the August 6th Denver, Colorado incident. According to the newspaper, Higgins punched a man in the face as he and a hotel staff member tried to drag the drunken newsman back into the hotel. When police were hailed, Higgins cursed and threatened them, swinging at one of the officers. At one point feigning unconsciousness, he then tried to bite a medic bandaging his nose. His next court date is September 10th. The incident is reminiscent of one involving CNN reporter Arwa Damon in Baghdad on July 19th. In that instance, a drunken Damon did bite two medics attending her. She is now the subject of a $2 million lawsuit as a result of her alleged actions.
