** Irish medic to get bravery medal for saving woman who fell from cliff
UNITED STATES NEWS
** A Chicago motorist, 34, is dead after crashing his vehicle into the home of a paramedic Wednesday. WGN (April 15) said the noon time crash, which remains under police investigation, played out with the vehicle jumping the lawn and smashing into the front door area of the abode. According to the news site, the paramedic resident was home at the time and immediately initiated CPR. The driver, meanwhile, was transported to hospital but died shortly afterwards. The unidentified paramedic sustained only minor injuries in the mishap.
IRELAND NEWS
** An off-duty paramedic in the Aran Islands is being credited with saving the life of a tourist who nearly fell to her death into the Atlantic Ocean. That is the word from ABC 7 (April 15) which said Seamus McCarthy managed to save the woman by using his jacket as a rope and anchoring it to a backpack. He then lowered the contraption down to Aparjita Gupta, 21, so he could pull her up from her precarious rocky and watery perch. According to the newspaper, Gupta, who broke her ankle in the plunge,  clung to a rock while the rescue was being carried out. McCarthy shrugged off his actions, saying anyone would have done the same thing. Authorities, however, disagree. He has been tagged to receive a bravery medal later this year.
