** Flags at half mast for murdered Washington paramedic and family; memorial service also held
** Alleged Texas murderer of former combat medic had only just gotten out of jail on parole for drug offences
UNITED STATES NEWS
** Flags were lowered to half mast Thursday in Spokane, Washington to honor the life of paramedic and Fire Lt. Terry Canfield who was shot to death May 26th. KREM 2 (June 11) said Canfield was killed along with his wife and son allegedly by his son-in-law. The home where the three were killed was then set on fire. According to the newspaper, Roy Murry was a member of a local militia who owned at least 14 guns. During police interrogation, Murry, 30, apparently said he belonged to the CIA and blamed the Russians for the murder (KREM/Whitney Ward/June 3). A public memorial for the 3 victims was also held yesterday.
** The alleged murderer of a former US Army combat medic had only been out of jail for 2 weeks at the time the crime was committed. That is the word from KSAT (June 5) which said San Antonio, Texas resident Zachary Duncan, 29, was released on parole in mid-April after serving time for drug offences. On April 30th, police say he murdered Pilar Horton-Garcia by shooting her in the head and dumping her body near railway tracks. Duncan was arrested Friday, remaining in jail pending the posting of a $150,000 bond. At the time he was interrogated by police, he did not admit to the killing but said he was tasked with it to repay a debt. It remains unknown whether or not Duncan knew his victim personally. Horton-Garcia, meanwhile, who originally hailed from Philadelphia, was buried on Memorial Day in a military funeral.
