** California man pleads not guilty in stabbing death of former combat medic

** A California man, accused in the July 3rd stabbing death of a former US Army combat medic, pleaded not
guilty Monday during an arraignment hearing. The San Jose Mercury News (Gary Peterson/August 17) said
Mark Anthony Nelson, 50, entered his plea in the death of Lakota Brightman, 45, in Contra Costa Superior
Court. According to the newspaper, police allege Nelson stabbed Brightman around 10 p.m. after the two got
into an argument outside a liquor store. Brightman had no fixed address at the time, but is the son of well
known Native American advocate Lehman Brightman. Nelson’s next court date is September 17th
