** Police have charged a West Virginia paramedic with driving under the influence of controlled substances. The Associated Press (October 10) said Mingo County resident Steven Ray was given the tag Tuesday. Ray, who works for Jan Care Ambulance, was transporting a patient at the time the incident occurred. According to the newspaper, he was behind the wheel when the unit ran two red lights. After being pulled over by police, he failed both a sobriety and blood alcohol test.

** A Budapest paramedic is preparing to sue police authorities after what he says was a wrongful arrest on theft charges. All Hungary News (October 10) said the unnamed provider and his partner were taken into custody October 4 for stealing Ft 300,000 from a 93-year-old female patient. The woman claims the money was taken from her purse while she was unconscious, Both practitioners, who denied the charges, were arrested and released a short time later. The duo have now been suspended from their jobs. The National Ambulance Service is investigating.
