** New York EMT arrested after fondling female patient, trying to date her

** Maine enacts laws allowing EMTs to rescue unattended animals in overheated cars

UNITED STATES NEWS

** New York police have arrested an EMT who allegedly fondled a female patient and then attempted to date her. The New York Post (Jamie Schram/June 22) said Davide Taranto, 31, who has been charged with sexual abuse, was taken into custody Monday for the infraction. Currently out on $1,000 bail, he allegedly molested the 39-year-old patient during a May 16th MVA. According to the newspaper, he then repeatedly complemented her figure while waiting with her at the the hospital. The jig was up when the woman complained to police that Taranto was calling and texting her to invite her to his home. Taranto is currently suspended without pay from his FDNY job.

** A new Maine law set to go into effect soon will allow EMS personnel to rescue unattended dogs and other animals trapped in overheated cars. That is the word from WCSH 6 (June 21) which said along with EMTs, security guards and firefighters can also intervene. An important change, the previous statute only permitted police officers, humane agents, and animal control personnel to assist. During 2010, animal control officials said they logged 110 complaints in Bangor for animals suffering in hot cars.
