** South African paramedic dies following storm response

** Â A South African paramedic from Durban is dead after the ambulance he was riding in overturned during a storm Tuesday. That is the word from The Highway Mail (October 13) which said ER24 Highway paramedic Vicky Govender was severely injured while responding to an accident scene on the N2. According to the newspaper, the EMS unit aquaplaned while passing a flooded section of road. It then rolled several times. Following many surgeries, Govender died early Friday. His partner, Tracey Bederson, meanwhile remains in hospital recovering from a fractured arm. She is in stable condition. Govender, who worked for the ambulance service for 15 years, leaves a wife and two children behind. Funeral services are pending.
